A SONG written and recorded by graduate from Brecon has become the most listened to on an album released by her university.
Bethan Childs’ self-penned track Gamma Ray appears on the Seeds compilation album which showcases original compositions from singers and musicians studying music production at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk, Lancashire.
Bethan, who this summer graduated with a BA Honours in music production, has seen her track included on a 13 song CD released by the university while it has also proved to be the most streamed on a dedicated Soundcloud page.
Bethan, who attended Brecon High School and Merthyr College before studying at Edge Hill, said she was taken aback at her song’s popularity.
"I was a bit surprised to be honest as a lot of the other people are very talented and there’s a lot of great songs on the album. It’s really cool to have mine listened to the most."
Taking inspiration from a wide range of artists from the turn of the millennium, Bethan’s work tends to create acoustic pop and pop/rock songs, bringing together elements of nostalgia to today’s modern audience.
The 22-year-old said she is unsure what she will do next but is currently writing more songs at home in Brecon: "I’m not entirely sure but I’m trying to write some more songs right now and I’d like to find a job in the music industry."
The CD was the brainchild of university lecturer Gary Westhead who wanted to provide an opportunity for students while also offering valuable studio and recording experience. It was recored at the university’s own studios and the Parr Street Studios in Liverpool that have been used by Coldplay, the Spice Girls, Justin Bieber and Rihanna.
