A new bus service has come to Trecastle after a sustained campaign by Councillor Edwin Roderick and members of the Trecastle Community Council.
The community council were also helped with the support of Councillor Jackie Charlton of Powys County Council.
The new arrangements will see Trecastle included in the upgraded bus network, reversing years of service withdrawal and isolation.
The new service is to run from Brecon to Llandovery to connect the bus service on to Carmarthen four times a day, including Saturday.
Councillor Edwin Roderick said: “I hope it will breath new life into an area which had been forgotten about, bearing in mind so many of Trecastle residents had to travel to Llandovery for doctor, banks, solicitors.”
From September, young people in Powys will also benefit from a youth travel concession with the extension of the Welsh Government’s MY Travel pass, allowing travel on buses within Wales for £1.
Residents will have better access to nearby towns, shops and onward travel.
It also means tourism will be benefited, as it opens up all the west of Bannau Brycheiniog, with train connections north to Shrewsbury. This is supported by Bannau Brycheiniog.
