SCHOOLGIRL Olivia Grant is hoping to be crowned Miss Teen Great Britain.
The 15-year-old from Llyswen is in the running for the competition that is described as a "positive and confidence building experience for young girls and teenagers".
As part of her efforts to win the crown Olivia, who attends Gwernyfed High School in Three Cocks, is raising funds for the Together for Short Lives charity that aims to improve palliative care for children.
Mum Tina, a self employed hairdresser who works in Hay-on-Wye, said: "Strangers are always stopping Olivia and saying how beautiful she is.
"I think it will be an experience for life and it might just give her the confidence she needs.
"People are always telling her she’s lovely and has the nicest personality anyone could ask for, but she doesn’t believe it.
"She is a very clever girl and wants to be a lawyer."
Proud Tina said the family had lived in Dubai until two years ago where Olivia was part of a dance group that appeared at the Dubai Rugby Sevens tournament and also featured in an advert in the Gulf emirate.
Tina, who also attended Gwernyfed High, said while living in Dubai she turn down modelling offers for Olivia: "She was approached in Dubai to be a Victoria’s Secret Angel, I had to say she was only 13."
Olivia is raising funds for competition charity, Together for Short Lives via a website, www.justgiving.com/Olivia-Grant2/.
