The Real Ale Wobble made a welcome return to Llanwrtyd Wells last Saturday.
The cycle ride is part of the Green Events organised Mid-Wales Beer festival.
An incredible 319 cyclists started the event from the Bromsgrove School, with the riders able to choose to do a long route of 35km or a short route of 21km.
On the route through the Irfon forest there were four black runs with technical descents and two feeding stations serving real ale.
The route was expertly marked and marshalled by Cycle-Tec from Builth Wells.
In the evening cyclists gathered at the Neuadd for an evening of rock music. The Real Ale Wobble is a real community event with a large donation going to Ysgol Dolafon.
What is the Real Ale Wobble?
• Whether you are a hardened mountain biker or a fun rider who happens to like a drop of real ale, The Real Ale Wobble will be right up your street. The wobble is a non-competitive event marking the beginning of the 10-day Mid Wales Beer Festival in Llanwrtyd Wells.
• With courses for both serious bikers and enthusiastic amateurs, anyone can give the event a go. Routes are waymarked and marshalled, with check points, 2 along the way and one at the finish, where beer tokens can be exchanged for locally brewed real ale (water, hot drinks and soft drinks are also available).
• The scenery is breathtaking, with winding routes through some of the most unspoilt mountains and forestry in this hidden gem of a location in Mid Wales.
• The first mountain bike centre opened in Llanwrtyd Wells in 1985, and cycling and mountain biking is still a great draw for many holidaymakers.
• Llanwrtyd Wells is a gem in the heart of Mid Wales - and the Real Ale Wobble is just one of the many quirky events in this town’s calendar.
