AS the London Olympic Games continue a Hay-on-Wye athlete is stepping up her training for the forthcoming Paralympics.

Josie Pearson, 26, is heading to a Team GB training camp in Portugal ahead of the games, that get underway at the Olympic Park from August 29.

She will be competing at the giant Olympic Stadium and going for gold in the discuss and club throw events. Josie holds the world record for her category in the discuss.

It will be Josie's second Paralympic Games - having already competed at the Beijing Games in China four years ago when she became the first British woman to compete at wheelchair rugby.

Josie, who broke her neck in a 2003 car accident when she was still a sixth former, competed in the rough and tumble mixed sport, that is also know as 'murder ball'.
