PLAY Radnor has scooped a £250 000 lottery grant which will help it to expand its services.
The Llandrindod Wells-based organisation will use the money for a building who it hopes will become a community resource.
Ben Webb, the manager of Play Radnor, said: "It has been a momentous year for Play Radnor. Thanks to our lottery bid we are in the process of purchasing a building in Llandrindod to transform into an exemplar and dynamic purpose built Play Hub and community resource."
This will be done with the help of Bristol-based architects studio 310 and Turner Prize-winning London architect group Assemble.
The building will become a dedicated centre that will increase access to services for children and young people and act as a venue for community events and activities while also providing extended volunteering opportunities for residents of Powys.
Ben said: "We are truly excited about our future and the positive difference this building will make to the local and wider community."
The process of applying for the lottery bid started with a consultation to see what the community needed and they concluded that they needed a "place the kids could call their own" according to Ben.
Play Radnor delivers a number of services and is centred around improving the lives of young people.
Ben, who was "gobsmacked" by the lottery funding, said: "It will change the organisation and the way we run things can now be taken to the next level."
Play Radnor employs 17 part time members of staff. It delivers 11 programs for children and young people and reaches well over 1,000 children.
As well as the services that are offered from Play Radnor it offers school projects through the playful schools program. This allows the organisation to support school and promote more child led active play at break times in schools.
Ben said: "Our vision sees the play hub at the heart of the Powys community providing sustainable, secure, diverse and accessible space that is valued and supported by the people of Llandrindod Wells and the surrounding areas. Through the hub we aim to promote and facilitate inclusive activities which address the play, education, training, employment, welfare, health, social, cultural and recreational needs of young people."
Play Radnor will be holding its AGM to discuss the future of the play hub on April 28.
