A pensioner has been arrested in connection with a fire at Builth Wells in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Dyfed-Powys Police, which is investigating the fire on Lion Lane, said it had arrested a 66-year-old man on suspicion of arson.

It is thought that while residents surrounding the residential building on Lion Lane were badly shaken, they were all okay following the incident which was also attended by Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service as well as the Welsh Ambulance Service.

It is also understood that the fire did cause damage to other neighbouring properties.

A force spokesman said: "A 66-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson. He remains in police custody at this time.

"Enquiries are ongoing, however, we are not looking for anyone else at this stage."
