HEAVYWEIGHT Remainers are holding a Brexit discussion in Three Cocks as the one-year anniversary of the vote to leave the European Union looms.
Hosted by Eluned Morgan, AM for Mid and West Wales, ‘Brexit: A Year On’ has drafted key Remain supporters in a bid to force local MP Chris Davies – a committed Brexiteer – to support a Brexit that ‘works for’ the local area. The opening session will be led by Sir Keir Starmer, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the EU, Lord John Kerr, former Foreign Office Permanent Secretary and author of Article 50, and Lord Neil Kinnock, former Vice President of the European Commission.
Eluned Morgan said: “As well as an opportunity to speak about where we are on Brexit a year after the vote, speakers will give their views on the result of the recent election and how we now negotiate Britain’s exit. Who could have seen a few months ago new factors such as the implications for the Tories of being in coalition with Northern Ireland’s DUP?
“I hope people in Brecon and Radnorshire will come along and take part in discussions on Saturday, then go back and challenge their MP Chris Davies to make sure we have a Brexit that works for Mid Wales.”
The discussion at Gwernyfed High School starts at 10 am on Saturday June 24. Tickets can still be reserved for the event at: http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/BrexitHay17 (Discount voucher: BRX17)
