The event, on Saturday, was organised by the pressure group The Taxpayers’ Alliance and its campaigners held placards and gave out leaflets warning of the possible 12% rise in council tax from April.
Conservative councillors Claire Mills, who represents Llanyre in Radnorshire, and Iain McIntosh, the member for Yscir, near Brecon, also joined the protest against the potential rise which has been proposed by the ruling coalition of Independent and Conservative councillors.
The council has already warned it must make £9 million of cuts this year as it faces a shortfall of £14m. Powys council’s main funding settlement, from the Welsh Government, is being reduced by 0.5% in the upcoming financial year.
The Welsh Labour Government blames funding cuts on the UK Conservative Government’s austerity policies.
