William Powell AM has been chosen by Welsh Liberal Democrat members to lead the party’s Mid and West Wales regional list for the Assembly elections.

Mr Powell has been the Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Mid & West Wales since 2011, speaking for the party on the environment, farming and the rural economy. His a livestock farmer, is an qualified languages teacher and graduate of Pembroke College, Oxford.

Mr Powell said: “I am delighted to have been elected by party members to lead this incredibly strong team. It has been an absolute honour to represent the people of Mid and West Wales over the last five years and I hope to be given the opportunity to continue with the work that I have started.

“During this Assembly the Welsh Liberal Democrats have shown that we can stand up and deliver for rural people. We used our influence to secure funding for major projects like the Dyfi Bridge and delivered £34m extra investment for schools in our region.

“The Welsh Liberal Democrats have listened to people’s concerns; our manifesto priorities will be your priorities: more nurses on hospital wards, smaller class sizes for our children, and an Opportunity Economy which helps businesses grow and supports people to own their own home.”
