THE 40th Pont ar Elan Show in the Elan Valley was opened by the Deputy Mayor of Rhayader Councillor James Stuart who complimented the organisers on the event and also reaching their 40th year.

Councillor Stuart also went on to judge the craft section and present some of the prizes. The event attracted dog owners from far and wide including South and West Wales, Anglesey and even some from Yorkshire. The afternoon featured quality Foxhounds, Terriers, Lurchers and Whippets as well as a number of other breeds of dogs.

The champions in the Terrier and Lurcher sections also qualify for the prestigious Countryman’s Weekly Champion of Champions event at Weston Park. This year’s event also featured their usual men’s beard competition when the winner was Gareth Evans of Llanwrtyd Wells. He was presented with the award by one of the judges in that section Carmae San Miguel.

The show secretary Tudor Davies said it had been a great event in a unique and beautiful location which everybody loved.
