Powys County Council is inviting local businesses, and companies looking to relocate to the county, to apply for a new round of capital grants worth between £5,000 and £25,000.

The grants are funded through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and aim to support productivity improvements and investment in greener technologies.

Eligible projects could include the purchase of new equipment to create products or services, or upgrades such as sustainable lighting and heating systems.

Expressions of interest must be submitted by Monday, September 15, with full applications expected by Friday, October 3. Successful projects must be fully delivered and paid for by January 18 2026, with grants reimbursing 50 per cent of eligible costs. Match funding must come from private sector cash rather than services or materials.

Cllr James Gibson-Watt, Cabinet Member for a More Prosperous Powys, said: “We are offering these grants as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting economic development and businesses through these challenging times.

“We want to help local enterprises and inward investors at all stages of their development, to start, sustain, grow and innovate, including through local networks.

“These capital grants are specifically aimed at boosting productivity and building long-term sustainability.”

The programme is open to micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (up to 250 employees) that have been trading for at least six months in sectors including advanced manufacturing, construction, creative industries, energy and environment, finance and professional services, information technology and telecoms, life sciences, food and drink, tourism, retail, and care.

Applications from other sectors, excluding farming, fishing, forestry, and statutory services, will also be considered, based on their value to the local economy.

Powys County Council is also encouraging businesses looking for new sites or premises in the county to get in touch so that business support officers can offer guidance.

Cllr Gibson-Watt added: “We want to help Powys businesses reach their full potential, so please let us know if we can do anything to help you find the new site or premises that you need now or in a few years’ time.”
