POWYS County Council is set to giveaway sports facilities in Brecon and Talgarth valued at £165,000 and receive just £11 back.

The moves are part of the council's plan to transfer facilities it had previously provided to local community groups - but could see the loss of public tennis courts in Brecon and the town's only outdoor basketball court.

Powys County Council currently leases the bowling pavilion and grounds at Mill Green, Brecon to Brecon Bowling Club while the council manages the sports pavilion, sports field, tennis courts and children's playing area at King George V playing field in Talgarth.

Powys County Council had previously tried to offer the freehold to the bowling club, which it had valued at £30,000 but the asset transfers were agreed by the county council's cabinet at its Tuesday, December 16 meeting and Brecon Bowling Club can now secure the freehold of the site for just £10.

The freehold of the King George V playing fields at Talgarth, valued at £135,000 will be transferred to Talgarth Town Council for a nominal £1.

The decision to off load the Talgarth fields is a result of the council's budget decision to axe funding for recreation grounds from April 2015.
