Temperatures are set to drop in Powys this week as a cold blast takes hold of the UK.

It’s not quite time to put the winter coats away as, despite the recent warm weather, winter has shown that it’s not quite over.

It has already felt colder in mid Wales in recent days with temperatures going as low as 2°C in Llandrindod Wells and 3°C in Brecon in the evenings.

However the temperature will go down to 0°C in the early hours of tomorrow morning making for a freezing morning commute.

Snow is predicted in Llandrindod from midnight tonight until around 3am tomorrow - it is then thought it will stay dry for the rest of the day.

In Builth Wells, the Met Office said there is a 40 per cent chance of sleet at 2am followed by a 30 per cent chance of gentle snow shower from 4am until 5am before a dry but cold day.

Meanwhile in Brecon there will be some sun as it remains overcast through the day, however temperatures will struggle to rise - the highest it is predicted to go by the UK Government weather agency, The Met Office, is 6°C.

The temperature is also predicted to drop to -1°C on Friday, April 1.

The Met Office has predicted the temperature will drop even lower by the Storey Arms as it falls to -2°C in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

There is a 60 per cent chance of sleet from 8pm today with a 50 to 70 per cent chance of snow showers from 10pm tonight until 4am tomorrow - there are no weather warnings in place.

However there is no more snow forecast for the Brecon Beacons after tomorrow morning.

It is not predicted rise above three degrees tomorrow, and the icy blast will see it struggle to go over 5°C until the middle of next week.

Despite a small amount of sleet predicted at 3am for Ystradgynlais, it will stay mostly overcast with patches of rain.

Crickhowell and Hay-on-Wye should also expect weather which is overcast with occasional showers.

Most of the county will experience the cold snap with temperatures ranging from around -1°C to about 6°C until next week when it will start to rise close to eight or nine degrees celsius.
