Gwernyfed High School is celebrating another year of strong A-level results, with pupils securing places at some of the UK’s most prestigious universities.
This summer, 83 per cent of all grades awarded at the school were A*–C, with 67 per cent of students achieving three Level 3 qualifications at those grades. Many are now preparing to study a range of subjects including geography, journalism, medicine, education, biochemistry and photography.
Strong performances were recorded across a number of subjects, particularly art and design, English language and literature, media studies, government and politics, chemistry and physics. The school also reported excellent results in BTEC Sport through its collaboration with Chweched Powys Sixth.

Executive Headteacher, Kirsty Retallick, said: "We are incredibly proud of our pupils, staff, and wider school community. These results are a testament to the hard work and determination shown by everyone. Our partnerships continue to play a vital role in raising aspirations and ensuring all learners succeed, becoming outstanding young people, future leaders, entrepreneurs, skilled professionals, and compassionate citizens ready to make a difference in the world."
Interim Headteacher Sian Jenkins added: "As we look ahead, GHS remains focused on delivering high-quality teaching and learning, enriching opportunities for all pupils, and continuing to improve outcomes year on year. Whether heading to further education, apprenticeships, training, employment, or gap year adventures, our pupils leave us equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive.”
There were also positive results in Year 12 examinations, providing a strong foundation for next year’s A-level studies.
The school thanked parents, families and colleagues for their support, and wished all pupils success in their next steps.
