A RESTAURANT and pub near Brecon has been awarded its second AA rosette in under 15 months.
The Three Horseshoes Inn, based in Groesffordd, is one of only three venues in Powys to have received two rosettes.
The small pub was awarded its second rosette on Saturday, December 8 last year after a blind visit by AA inspectors. They were awarded their first in September 2017.
The Three Horseshoes Inn is powered by a small but talented team in the kitchen consisting of head chef Connor Turner, sous chefs Gavin Kellett and David Sedgemore and trainee chef Matthew Richards.
Connor has also worked at The Whitebrook in Monmouthshire which holds a Michelin star and Gavin recently qualified for the final of the National Chef of Wales competition.
Owner Ashley Haworth, who is originally from Lancashire, has run the pub for more than 20 years.
Ashley said: “It’s amazing, the team has worked really hard together.
“It feels really good to stand out. We’re now one of only two establishments in Powys to have two rosettes.
“We’re all very pleased because we’ve worked so hard and when you think we’re only a small place in the middle of nowhere.”
Ashley said they were completely unaware of the AA’s visit until after it had happened.
He said: “We had no idea they were visiting at all until afterwards.”
Lasswade Country House in Llanwrtyd Wells is the other venue with two rosettes while Llangoed Hall in Llyswen is the only establishment in Powys with three.
