A PUBLIC meeting will take place in Hay-on-Wye to discuss the proposed closure of two public toilets in the town.

Powys County Council intends closing nearly 40 public toilets across the county as part of its cost cutting measures.

Toilets at Hay's Craft Centre and behind the Clock Tower only remain open as the town council has expressed an interest in taking them over.

The total estimated costs of running the toilets to the town council is estimated at £20,000 a year but the county council is able to offer a grant of £6,500 a year to off-set costs, if both toilets are kept open. This would be just £1,500 if only one set is managed.

The county council is also offering grants of £500 a year to businesses to open their toilets to non customers.

The meeting is being held at the Parish Hall on Thursday, December 12 at 7pm.
