Radnor YFC held its first weekend of the autumn public speaking competitions with the annual Junior Reading Competition.

The competition was supported by the FUW and was held at the FUW building on the Royal Welsh Showground. Members were asked to read extracts from the book The Wolves of Willoughby Chase written by Joan Aitken.

Eleri Davies, Eifion Davies and Jenna Jones from Rhayader YFC were crowned overall winners with Presteigne YFC coming second. The same day members competed in the Situations Vacant competition giving members vital experience in applying for their dream job, this was won by Ella Harris, Teme Valley YFC. The Radnor Bursary was won by Penybont YFC who will use the money towards buying a storage unit for their club.

The highlight of the day was the announcement of Radnor’s Junior and Senior members of the year and the titles this year went to Joanna Thomas, Cantal YFC, Junior Member of the Year and John James, Howey YFC, Senior Member of the Year.

Members look forward to the next public speaking competitions which will be held on November 16/17 at the FUW Building, Llanelwedd.
