Cadets in Radnorshire are appealing for help to raise money for a new minibus to support their group.

The 579 Llandrindod Wells RAF Air Cadets have been fundraising to replace their current minibus, which has served them for ten years but is now on its last legs.

According to the Llandrindod group’s fundraising page, their current minibus in the garage however it has “become costly to service, repair and run”.

On their fundraising page, group 579 said: “Our cadets enjoy a wide variety of activities which mostly take place place away from our HQ, therefore in order for for our cadets to be transported safely, we need to offer a reliable form of transport.

“The cost of a new bus is out of our budget but the more funds we raise with this appeal, the better the second hand bus we will be able to buy.

“Every penny donated will go towards the bus and we are hoping this appeal with kick start our fundraising which we will continue with next year.

“Don’t forget to tick the Gift Aid box if you are a UK Taxpayer as this adds on 25p for every £1 raised. Also, when we get to £1,750 we will unlock a further £250 match funding from Localgiving.”

Powys County Councillor Jake Berriman expressed his happiness at donating money to the group.

The councillor for Llandrindod North, donated £100 to the 579 Llandrindod Wells RAF Air Cadets during a visit last month.

Cllr Berriman said it was a pleasure to donate the money from his Llandrindod North Ward Community Grant Fund when he visited the branch on Thursday, January 27.

Cllr Berriman, who thanked the young cadets for showing him around their headquarters, said: “It was a pleasure to be able to give them £100 from my Llandrindod North Ward Community Grant Fund towards the cost of a new, to them, group mini bus.

“They are now half way towards their target and any additional support would be appreciated. Pictured are three relatively new recruits, all starting in September, and all from North Ward.”

Speaking about a photo he took with the teenagers, Cllr Berriman explained their uniforms saying: “Mia is dressed for field craft activities, whilst Robert and James are smartly turned out in their blues ready to use the flight simulator and carry out radio operations respectively.”

The group of cadets is appealing for donations to help replace the minibus - they have asked for £3,000 of which they have so far raised £1,175 on Localgiving.
