A CONTROVERSIAL traffic restriction in Brecon town centre is being lifted, after councillors forced a U-turn.

The Bulwark 'choke', officially known as a bus and taxi gate, restricts access from the main town square to the Watton, the main eastern route out of the town.

But it forced much anger, with many shopkeepers campaigning against the restriction ever since it was first introduced as part of the town centre refurbishment programme in 2005.

Councillors, who agreed to revoke the order which forces all traffic other than buses and taxis to follow a loop around the town centre to exit, said the restriction was widely ignored.

IN THE READERS POLL 78% OF READERS AGREED THAT THE CHOKE SHOULD BE REMOVED.
