A RESIDENTS parking scheme that could be rolled out across Powys has been welcomed in the town where it is to be piloted.

The county council cabinet agreed last week to trial a scheme to reserve areas of residential streets for residents' parking only, in Hay-on-Wye.

The councillor responsible for Powys' highways, Barry Thomas, has said once up and running in Hay the police could be adapted for any other town in Powys with public support.

The council says it intends to make the scheme 'cost neutral' and residents' parking permits could cost up to £65 a year.
