BRECON and Radnorshire MP Roger Williams says he is unlikely to vote in favour of UK military intervention in Syria.

MPs will be recalled to Parliament tomorrow (Thurs) and debate possible military intervention.

Liberal Democrat Mr Williams said he would have to consider the Commons motion, which is expected to be published later today, but is unlikely to support UK military action.

"I'm reluctant at the moment to support anything that will commit us to military intervention of any sort in Syria," said Mr Williams.

"I suppose my intention at the moment it to vote against but I will have to check what is actually written on the order paper.

"I don't know whose side we would actually be on. Presumably it wouldn't be on Bashar al-Assad, the president's side, as he is understood to have used chemical weapons against his own people and some of the fellow travellers of the rebels, like Al Qaeda, we wouldn't want to be on their side and helping anyway."

Mr Williams said during his travels around the constituency no-one has told him they support military intervention in Syria but people had raised objections.

He added: "I think the issue here is Syria is so complicated, having the support of Russia and China and the involvement of Hezbollah (Lebanese militant group) and the Lebanon. It is like keg of gunpowder waiting to explode.

"It is too complicated and too dangerous and I'm not quite sure how we would be involved. Things may become clearer but at the moment that (opposing military intervention) is my decision."
