Powys Brecknock Federation of Women’s Institutes held its Annual Council Meeting in this year at Llangorse Village Hall, bringing together WI members from across the area.
The meeting welcomed guests including Rhian Cunnick, Head of the National Federation of Women’s Institutes in Wales, along with local dignitaries and a strong turnout of members from throughout the Brecknock Federation.
As well as the formal business of the evening, there were special moments of recognition. Trallong & Penpont WI received a certificate to mark their remarkable 100th anniversary, while Priory WI were honoured for reaching their 45th year. Trallong & Penpont were also awarded the Federation Quiz Cup after triumphing in the recent quiz final.
One of the highlights of the evening came courtesy of guest speaker Jane Pugh, affectionately known as the “Singing Florist”. A seasoned floral designer and competitor at major shows across the UK and beyond, Jane delighted the audience with her themed talk, “Floral Chocolate Fantasy”.
Her stunning arrangements, inspired by favourites such as Milk Tray, Chocolate Orange and Flake, were created live while she serenaded the crowd. To the audience’s delight, the floral creations were later raffled off as prizes.
The evening ended with refreshments which came up to the usual WI standards, and did not disappoint the guests and members.
The Federation is always pleased to welcome new members. Please get in touch and you can be directed you to your nearest WI meeting place. The meetings are structured, but the main objective is fun and friendship.
