BRECON High School is set to be placed in special measures after inspectors found it had failed to sufficiently improve performance.
The categorisation will see inspectors Estyn make visits to the 700 plus pupil school every term and send regular updates to Welsh education minister Huw Lewis.
Brecon High headteacher Michael Morris, said he was 'disappointed' at the decision to downgrade the school from 'in need of significant improvement' to 'special measures' after a Estyn re-inspection in February.
"I am naturally disappointed, but accept that it (the Estyn follow up inspections) contains fair criticisms," said Mr Morris.
Powys County Council said school improvement officers from it and Ceredigion council will now support the school in addressing concerns raised by Estyn.
