Stringed instrument players from primary schools all over South Powys met at Sennybridge School last week for a rehearsal with Alan Davies and Claudine Nightingale from South Powys Youth Music (SPYM) in preparation for a series of special concerts as part of SPYM's Annual Gala Day on Wednesday, March 20 at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon.

The all day event will feature workhops, a performance by South Powys Junior Orchestra in the afternoon and South Powys Youth Orchestra perform at 7pm with a concert which includes works by Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann and Grieg

There are also performances by the choir, wind band, percussion group, String Machine and South Powys Bach group.

The annual gala, which showcases the work of South Powys Youth Music, will see nearly 200 young people coming together to perform at the Theatr from 11am to 9pm.

The action kicks off with the Primary Strings open rehearsal followed by the Shake, Rattle and Roll mother and toddler session at 12 noon.

SPYM's Tim Cronin said: "Daytime sessions are free to watch, listen and enjoy... just turn up."
