A local woman will face her biggest challenge later this year when she takes part in not one but two challenge events to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Sue Williams from Knighton, sets off on her first adventure to the Lake District and the 4 Fell Challenge in June. This tough 13-mile multi peak, one-day challenge will see her summit Scafell - England’s highest mountain - Bow Fell, Esk Pike, and Great End in the breathtaking Lake District.

The second challenge in November, takes Sue through villages, coffee and tea plantations in the Kerala region of South India. The hike takes her though climbs, ridges and mountains and she will experience the rich cultural and local history of this ancient region.???

Sue explains: “I have been raising funds for Macmillan now for 10 years having lost a friend and brother-in-law to Cancer. It has touched home again as my mother is now ill with this horrible disease. I think we have all heard of Macmillan Nurses, and in fact that is still how many people refer to them, but Macmillan do so much more. Something I have noticed, and something I hadn’t realised before taking my mother for Chemo and other appointments is that all the information literature provided for patients and carers is produced by Macmillan, they also help with benefits advice and have a free support line for patients, friends and families. This is my way for giving back to the charity that has been so supportive over the years. I always pay my own expenses, so 100% of anything you are kind enough to donate will go to Macmillan Cancer Support”

Nicola Newhams, fundraising manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, added: “Cancer is the toughest fight most of us will ever face and the feelings of loneliness and isolation that so many people experience make it even harder. Now, more than ever, we need people like Sue to get involved. We rely on our supporters for 99% of our income and such donations ensure we can support even more people affected by cancer."
