LOCAL farmers can get an insight into the agricultural department of one of Britain’s biggest supermarket chains at a meeting at the Royal Welsh Showground.
Colin Millichap, chairman of the farming union’s Brecon and Radnor branch, said members will have the opportunity to quiz the supermarket boss on the work of its agricultural department.
He said: "We are most grateful to Pearce Hughes for agreeing to come and speak at the conference and we look forward to hearing what measures Asda are taking to back Welsh farming.
"We would also like to thank HSBC Bank for sponsoring the event. I hope we will get a good turnout of local NFU Cymru members. Please also encourage your friends and neighbours to come along."
The Asda manager is a fourth generation beef and sheep farmer from near Ruthin, north Wales, who studied agri-food with management at Harper Adams University.
He became a Buyer/Asda LambLink Scheme Manager for Welsh Country Foods in 2002, before being appointed as the UK agricultural development manager for Asda in 2007. His role involves developing agricultural schemes, animal welfare, trials and engaging buyers across all agri-food sectors at Asda.
The meeting starts at 7.30pm and will will be held at the International Pavilion, Royal Welsh Showground at Llanelwedd.
