Talgarth held its annual Lights Switch On ceremony on Saturday, December 1.

Mayor of Talgarth Cllr William Powell opened the event and was assisted by Tilly Elston-Reeves of Talgarth who was chosen from a lucky dip to turn on the lights at 5pm.

Tilly a local student, was overwhelmed to have won the job. The Talgarth Christmas Lights Group, a volunteer organisation works tirelessly through the year to fund the Towns Christmas Display culminating in a social evening in the Town Square every December.

The evening followed a Christmas Market in the Town Hall, held by the Talgarth and District Regeneration Group, a Grotto with Santa was open to children of the community, mulled wine and mince pies were provided by the Talgarth Luncheon Group. Pizza’s were made at the Talgarth Mill and the crew of Talgarth Fire Station also joined the event.

Music was provided by the Parc & Dare band, Founded in 1893, the Parc and Dare Band is one of Wales and the UK’s best-known and respected brass bands and despite the cold kept every one festive.”
