On Friday, 16 October, Talgarth proudly hosted the Royal Horticultural Society Wales in Bloom Award Ceremony. This prestigious occasion marked the second time in just four years that Talgarth has been chosen to host one of the most notable events in the Wales in Bloom calendar.

The Wales in Bloom Annual Awards recognise horticultural achievement, commitment to improving the local environment and community collaboration, with categories ranging from campsites, pubs and hotels to villages and towns.

This year Grow for Talgarth co-ordinated an entry which offered the judges a route showcasing the town’s horticultural highlights, including the gardens at Ysgol Y Mynydd Du, Ashburnham House, the town’s pocket gardens and floral boxes, and The Mill Garden.

Each area played an important part in securing a prized Gold Award, which is a wonderful accolade for all the groups involved and a reflection of their enthusiasm, teamwork and community spirit.

Their success has been so outstanding that Grow for Talgarth has been invited by Wales in Bloom to represent Wales in the RHS Britain in Bloom competition next year, a tremendous honour and recognition of the group’s dedication and achievements.

Grow for Talgarth’s volunteers and other community members give their time and energy all year round to enhance Talgarth’s appearance, and their efforts help create a colourful and inviting environment for residents, visitors and businesses alike. By working collectively to care for the town’s green spaces and community gardens, the group helps promote pride in the local area.

They hope their success will encourage even more people to get involved in future projects, whether by volunteering, helping with planting or supporting initiatives to keep the town looking its best.

A spokesperson for Grow for Talgarth said: “We would also like to thank The Old Railway Line Garden Centre for their continued backing over the years and for sponsoring this Wales in Bloom Annual Awards Ceremony. Also, thanks to the local businesses and the community for all their support.”
