A temporary flight restriction zone, specifically affecting drones, will be imposed above Newtown tomorrow (Saturday, September 13) Dyfed-Powys Police have said.

The move comes as the police seek to facilitate lawful and peaceful protests in the town centre.

The ‘no-fly zone’ will be in effect from 9am to 6pm, during which time it will be an offence for any unmanned aircraft to fly below 2,000ft in the designated area without explicit police permission. Drone operators flying in the restricted airspace without authorisation may face prosecution, and their equipment could be seized.

The restrictions apply to all Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), including drones, and aim to maintain public safety during the planned demonstrations.

Drone pilots seeking permission to operate in the area can contact Dyfed-Powys Police at: [email protected]

Full details of the restrictions are also available on the Civil Aviation Authority website, and pilots are encouraged to check NOTAM Info and the Drone Safety Map before flying.
