CYCLING commentator and best-selling author Ned Boulting is bringing his one-man show to Theatr Brycheiniog this Saturday (November 18).

Bikeology, featuring tales from life in the cycling lane, will also bring the inside story to Brecon of Ned’s time at the 2017 Tour de France.

Part of a 25-date tour, this unmissable show celebrates the rise of cycling from a relatively obscure and maligned pastime to one of Britain’s biggest sporting success stories.

What drives the cyclist (apart from a sturdy, well-oiled chain) to such ecstasies of endurance?

What curious, deep-rooted passions are aroused by the sight of a simple pair of padded shorts?

And what on earth is a derailleur?

From the humble commuter to what makes a Tour de France winner, Boulting takes an off-centre look at what it means to ride a bike, drawing on his own underwhelming adventures in the saddle to his 14 summers spent hurtling around France in pursuit of the sport’s biggest names, including the likes of Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish and Chris Froome and, of course, the sport’s bete noir Lance Armstrong.

A breakneck descent through the history of the sport followed by a lung-bursting climb into the present day – all two-wheeled life is here.

From covering the highs of the 2012 London Olympics to the lows of the Armstrong era, Ned has been in the thick of the action for the last two decades and offers unparalleled first-hand insight in Bikeology.

Keep your wits about you, as you might find yourself up on stage to compete in Ned’s search for the nation’s Number 1 Bikeologist!

Ned Boulting, said: “The Bikeology tour has now been scientifically tested for power-to-weight ratio (a resounding thumbs up!) and aerodynamicity (if that’s even a word).

“It has been stress tested on the high mountains of public opinion and has dropped the opposition on the climb towards total domination of cycling’s immensely crowded theatrical one-man show market.

“From the South Coast to the North East, the vales to the dales with a few pit stops in places like Northampton, and culminating in a frenzy of metropolitan elitist cycling snobbery in London, it has proven that the passion for the bicycle is a love that transcends parochial division and allows the soul to soar, as the cycling spirit is set freewheeling its way to ever greater bicycle-related ecstasies.

“My show will bring you face to face with your own fascination, as we collectively explore our mania for strangely-named Belgian races on rainy March weekends, as well as our deep devotion to impenetrably complicated gear ratio charts.

“Whether you are a once-a-year Tour de France novice, a beardy weirdo with an old Raleigh, or a carbon-fibre MAMIL (Middle Aged Man in Lycra), a house in Provence and six-figure salary, you are welcome to come with me on a journey to the heart of your own undeniable oddness.

“Bikeology is, along with Brexit, the biggest thing that will happen in your lifetime.

“Maybe.”

Ned has written four acclaimed books: ‘How I Won the Yellow Jumper: Dispatches from the Tour de France’, ‘On the Road Bike: The Search for a Nation’s Cycling Soul’, ‘101 Damnations: Dispatches from the 101st Tour de France’ and ‘Boulting’s Velosaurus: A Linguistic Tour De France’ was released in October.
