Prime Minister Theresa May has paid tribute to the father and five children who are thought to have died in the Llangammarch Wells farmhouse fire.
Dad David Cuthbertson and five children, aged between four and 11, are feared to have died in the fire while three children, aged 13, 12 and 10, are recovering after escaping the blaze.
Mrs May paid tribute during Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons on Wednesday after the tragedy had been raised by Brecon and Radnorshire MP Chris Davies.
The PM said: "He has raised what I know is a very tragic case and I’m sure that everybody across this whole House will want to join with him in sending condolences to the family and friends of those affected by the fire.
"This was indeed a terrible tragedy that took place and, as he said, it isn’t just the family themselves which have been affected but the local community as well and I know that the emergency services did sterling work and I’m also pleased to commend the work that they did and their bravery and professionalism in dealing with this issue.
"The Secretary of State for Wales has spoken to the police and they will remain in touch over the coming days but once again our emergency services do an amazing job protecting us. We see this in so many instances.
"They never know when they are going to be called out to such a tragic incident."
Conservative Mr Davies had told the Commons: "Earlier this week in Llangammarch Wells in my constituency a horrific farmhouse fire claimed the lives of a father and five young children.
"This has had a devastating effect not just on the family but on the tight-knit community that surrounds it.
"Would the Prime Minister join me and indeed this House in sending our sympathies to the family of the bereaved and also the villages and town of Llangammarch, along with praising the outstanding work of our emergency services who’ve dealt with this appalling tragedy with true dedication and professionalism?"
