THREE dogs have died after a pan sparked a cottage blaze.
Fire crews from Abercraf and Brecon were called to the fire at a cottage in Crai, near Brecon, on Monday night.
Neighbours had put out the fire and crews were involved in clearing away, damping down hotspots and carrying out a hotsrike.
A spokesman for the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "Unfortunately three dogs passed away as a result of the fire."
The brigade said more than half of all accidental fires at home are started by cooking.
It has issued safety advice to remind people to take pans off the heat or turn the heat down if you’re called away from the cooker, by a phone call or any other distraction, to take care if wearing loose clothing as it can catch fire easily and don’t cook if you have been drinking alcohol or have taken prescription drugs as you may get drowsy or lose concentration.
Householders are also told they should ensure they have a working smoke alarm.
