More than 60 shooters took aim for the top prize of £100 at the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution’s clay shooting competition at the Mid-Wales Shooting Centre in Trefeglwys, Caersws.

The ’down the line’ competition proved popular and the results were extremely close with five shooters achieving perfect scores Ð and agreeing to share the £200 prize money pot.

The leading performers were Shaun Gardener, Morgan Williams, Tom Moseley, Ricky Millichamp and Mark Bridges.

The event was organised by RABI’s Brecon & Radnor committee, who recently won the Bryn Davies Bowl. This award goes to the individual, organisation, company or club in Wales that makes ’the greatest contribution to RABI’.

The 156-year-old charity helps farming people in financial hardship and support is generally tailored to individual need. Last year, around 200 individuals / families were helped throughout Wales and grants of around £34,000 were paid out in Brecon & Radnor.

Linda Jones, RABI regional manager for Wales, said: "We have given out grants of more than £20,000 in Brecon and Radnor already this year,up to the end of May, and this reflects a 42% increase on the same period last year. Many farming families, through no fault of their own, are struggling to make ends meet."

Paul Greenow, deputy chair of RABI’s Brecon & Radnor committee, said: "I would like to thank our event sponsor J&C Griffiths and Son, Agricultural Engineers, of Talgarth for supporting the clay shoot. We rely on the generosity of local people and rural businesses and we, as a committee, are extremely grateful to everyone who contributes to our cause, either financially or by giving us their time."

A raffle on the day was also held, with prizes donated, which raised £362 for RABI.
