The Tour of Britain is the UK’s biggest professional bicycle race and a centrepiece of the British sporting calendar as the country’s largest free to watch live sporting event…and it’s returning to Powys on Wednesday.
On race day, large crowds of residents and visitors are anticipated to head to the Royal Welsh Showground and to line the route to watch one hundred of the world’s leading cyclists compete for the gold jersey – with former Tour riders including Olympic, World and Commonwealth Champions.
Join us on the day in the Royal Welsh Showground, Llanelwedd, where you can enjoy three hours of live coverage on large screens, before the riders race into the showground itself for the stage finish. Attendance is free and there is no charge for parking and there will be lots going on in the main arena from 11.30am onwards.
Stage 4 starts in Denbigh, entering Powys at Llangynog, where it winds through beautiful countryside on this challenging route through the Dyfi Valley to Rhayader, Newbridge on Wye and on to the stage finish at Llanelwedd, near Builth Wells.
With less than a week to go, Builth Wells is gearing up for The Tour of Britain’s arrival.
Colourful bikes are popping up around the town ahead of Wednesday’s Stage 4 finish at The Royal Welsh Showground.
The Showground will be a great place to watch live coverage and see the riders finish the longest stage of this year’s Tour of Britain.
There will be lots going on all day. Try out the pump track, get a workout with Coleg Sir Gar, test your stamina with cycle sprinting, see how bikes are made, plenty of children’s activities as well as lots more besides.
If you’d like to experience cycling on the day then you can take part in the Builth Tour Sportive will also be taking place on September 7. Choose either the 100km or 40km ride and enjoy quiet roads with scenic views.
Once you have completed your sportive, you can enjoy a variety of cycling related activates, stalls and entertainment.
