Llandrindod Wells Town Council has announced it has secured full grant funding to build a new skatepark on Princes Avenue.
The council has received more than £550,000 from the National Lottery’s People and Places Fund to support the project.
A spokesperson for Llandrindod Wells Town Council has said: “The Council and committee are delighted to say that we have now obtained funding from the National Lottery People and Places Fund and the Transforming Towns Mid Wales Fund totalling over £550,000.
“The town council has ring-fenced monies within its budget for the past three years to commit to this project.”
The spokesperson added: “Our thanks go to the National Lottery and Powys County Council Regeneration Department and officers for their support with these applications and for enabling the town council vision to become a reality.”
The Skatepark Committee was set up some time ago to develop plans for a new facility in the town, with ambitions for it to be the largest and most advanced in the area.
The committee brought together town council members, former representatives from Llandrindod Town Extreme, and members of the local group Ready to Roll. County Councillor Pete Roberts was also involved with the project in its early stages.
Securing the project’s funding, estimated at more than £500,000, required extensive work by the town clerk, with support from Resources for Change, who helped prepare clear and competitive bids to three different funding sources.
However, the sudden closure of the Community Ownership Fund ahead of the General Election left the council facing both a significant funding gap and a dilemma.
With regards to building it, construction is now expected to begin in early spring 2026, weather permitting, with the new skatepark set to be built as a concrete structure.
