Emergency work to repair a water main has caused traffic disruption in Brecon.

There have been long queues of traffic in Llanfaes while workers from Welsh Water have been carrying out work at the Watergate.

Temporary traffic lights have been installed at the junction of Watergate, Bridge Street and Ship Street.

As a result traffic has been waiting at Llanfaes bridge and all along Bridge Street, Orchard Street and Newgate Street.

Cerian White, who works at the Llanfaes Dairy ice cream parlour, said traffic had been waiting outside all day.

She said: "It is like the school run time, but it has been all day not just from 3.30."

She added a colleague, who lives in the town centre, had received a text earlier in the week from Welsh Water warning supplies could be disrupted due to a burst main.

A spokesman for Welsh Water said: "We despatched a team this morning to carry out emergency repair work on the water main in Watergate Street, Brecon.

"To protect the safety of our workers and motorists we installed temporary traffic management.

"Our team will be working throughout the day and anticipate that the work will all be completed later this afternoon.

"No water supplies have been affected and we would like to thank people for bearing with us while carried out this essential work."
