The family of a 97-year-old man who died after he was hit by a car in Knighton have issued a tribute to him.
Richard Wood died following the collision on Bridge Street, Knighton at around 10.25am last Thursday, February 16.
A statement issued by his family, through Dyfed-Powys Police, said: "Knighton pensioner Richard Wood sadly passed away at 97 years of age, having been struck by a motor vehicle on the morning of Thursday, February 16.
"Richard was on his daily ’constitutional’ stroll, which was either up the hill from his care home to the bench where he liked to sit when the sun was out, or down the hill for his paper, to do the crossword and keep abreast of news, assisted by his little three-wheel walker. He was a regular figure on that route and around Knighton, waving to the folk who knew him and with a word for everyone.
"Richard moved to Knighton in the early seventies with his family and worked at a local manufacturing business. He embraced life in the town and played an active role in the community, as a member of the Church, Choir and PTA and was for many years a member of PROBUS.
"Richard loved nature and the wonderful countryside of Shropshire and the Welsh borders, which he passionately photographed and painted, capturing a social history of the area which he enjoyed sharing at local groups through slide presentations.
"Anyone who knew him will miss his knowledge of music, the arts, history and current affairs. Renowned for his cheery, gentlemanly and optimistic nature, he will be sadly missed by his family, friends and the many people in the community who knew him."
