The highly competitive process to succeed long-standing Senedd Member Kirsty Williams as the Welsh Liberal Democrat Senedd candidate for Brecon & Radnorshire is entering its finally stage.

Brecon & Radnorshire Liberal Democrat members will be balloted on the two contenders who have qualified for the final stage of their selection process: former Brecon & Radnorshire Member of Parliament and Welsh Liberal Democrat Leader Jane Dodds and former Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales and current County Councillor for Talgarth William Powell.

William Powell was a French and German teacher prior to entering politics. He was a Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member from 2011-2016 and served as the party’s spokesperson on the Environment, Sustainable Development and Rural Affairs. He has been County Councillor for Talgarth since 2004.

Jane Dodds has been the Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats since 2017 and was the MP for the UK Parliamentary constituency in 2019. She has a professional background as a Child Protection Social Worker with organisations including the Refugee Council, Salvation Army and local authorities.

The successful candidate will contest Brecon & Radnorshire in the Senedd elections scheduled for May 2021.
