A number of stretches of road in Powys are under water and unpassable – particularly the A483 Welshpool and Four Crosses, A495 Meifod to Llanymynech and the Builth Wells area. Driving conditions throughout the county are treacherous, and police are appealing to motorists to only make absolutely essential journeys.

Police are also appealing to all motorists to heed road signs indicating a road is closed or flooded, as they are getting a number of reports of people ignoring these signs and then getting into difficulty in the deep water.

A police spokesman said: "We already have people stuck in their vehicles. Due to these problems, all the emergency services are heavily committed, therefore we are urging the public to help protect themselves by listening to advice.
