AWARD-winning author John Dingley has come home from America after 41 years to promote his books.
The Timeless Cavern series of books is set in the Builth Wells area and is about the young Marged Evans and her time-travelling adventures. These begin from a cavern on her hill farm, a cavern where no time passes.
People from all of time are trapped there; Marged listens to their stories and helps them return to their rightful place and time.
Sometimes she travels with them and experiences great moments in Mid Wales’ history.
Marged’s adventures involve her in the lives of Buffalo Bill when his Wild West Show came to Builth Wells, Welsh hero Owain Glyn Dwr, American soldiers from the Second World War, a Luftwaffe pilot, native Americans, a shepherd-expelled from the Epynt, and other characters from Mid Wales.
Marged and her cavern friends attend a 1904 cattle fair in Builth Wells, an old time sheep shearing, a sheepdog trial and a farm auction. They also prevent the Llyn Brianne dam from bursting and foil a clever sheep rustler.
The first two books in this series are available, with future books promising more adventures and even travels to the future. Book one, ‘Marged Evans and the Pebbles of Time’ was a Midwest Book Award finalist.
John’s other book, entitled ‘A Visit Home’, tells humorous tales of life in Mid Wales and also John’s current home town in Minnesota.
The stories are interspersed with more poignant poetry, inspired by both settings. This book is proving especially popular with locals to the area.
John will be signing his books on Sunday, June 18 at the Red Lion Inn, Llanafan Fawr, at 7pm. He will also hold a book-signing at the Strand Café, Builth Wells on Monday, June 19 at 2pm. John can be contacted by emailing [email protected] or calling 07949902622.
