A BOOK of condolence has been opened in Breconshire as the Upper Swansea Valley remembers the four miners who perished in the Gleision Colliery tragedy.

Garry Jenkins, who lived at Gurnos, Lower Cwmtwrch and Charles - or Charlie - Breslin, who'd been born and brought up in Cwmtwrch, died in the disaster with colleagues David Powell and Philip Hill.

Floral tributes have been laid at the Miner's Welfare Hall in Upper Cwmtwrch where the book of condolence was opened this week.

The four miners died after they were trapped by flood water in the drift mine near Pontardawe, three other men escaped the mine.
