A SHOP in Hay-on-Wye has warned customers to be aware after discovering a counterfeit £5 note in its till.

Police and the Brecon Chamber of Trade had warned ahead of the August bank holiday weekend that forged fivers were in circulation locally.

A staff member at RM Jones Pharmacy in High Town, Hay-on-Wye, said it is thought the forgery had been used at the shop today with Thursday, the traditional market day, a busy period.

She said the counterfeit note will be handed to the police or a bank.

The Pharmacy posted a photograph of the counterfeit on its @RMJonesPharmacy Twitter account with the message: **Warning shops in Hay** we have just found a counterfeit £5 in our till. No holographic Big Ben gives it away! RT".
