A WARNING has been issued over a scam involving callers asking questions about a road traffic accident.

Powys council’s trading standards service said it wants people in the county to be aware of the telephone cold calling scam.

Callers have been asking if people have been involved in a road traffic accident during the last three years in relation to insurance pay outs.

A spokesman for the council’s trading standards service said: "Residents are advised not to interact with the caller and to end the phone call.

"Never give out personal or financial details over the phone, always make checks with friends, family or the Citizens Advice Service (Free phone 03454 04 05 06) about who is calling you and ask for things to be sent to you in writing.

"Never feel pressured or rushed into making decisions about forming contracts. Don’t be rushed and Don’t be hushed. Such calls can also be reported to Action Fraud www.actionfraud.police.uk

"Consumers are encouraged to sign-up to the Community Messaging System to receive alerts from Dyfed Powys Police and Powys Trading Standards concerning their local area at www.dpcm.co.uk."
