Powys residents have been warned to stay vigilant for scam emails claiming to be from NHS Wales.

Scammers have been targeting people across Wales with an email which claims to be inviting the recipient to apply for an NHS Covid Pass.

If clicked on, the link within the email takes its prospective victims to a fake website which asks for personal details and potentially bank details to confirm the person’s identity.

Some of the scam emails also create a sense of urgency for victims as they claim that the link will only be active for a set number of days.

The Welsh Government has issued a warning to people across Wales that the NHS is not sending out invitations for the Covid passes.

The warning, which was shared by Dyfed-Powys Police, also included a reminder that the NHS will never ask for bank details and that scam emails often include a random email address whihch won’t be associated with the agency its claiming to be from, a random URL, as well as various misspellings and grammatical errors.

The warning from the Welsh Government, which came with an example of a scam email and link, said: “If you get a suspicious email like this - it’s not the NHS, it’s a scammer trying to steal your information. You won’t be invited to get an NHS Covid Pass.”

You can apply for an NHS Covid Pass by visiting the Welsh Government website. If you are worried you have been a victim of fraud, contact Dyfed-Powys Police by phoning 101 or contact Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040 or visit the Action Fraud website by clicking here.
