The Welsh Guards have cancelled their planned St David’s Day parade in Brecon tomorrow because of Storm Emma.
The much-trailed weatherfront is bringing heavy snow and strong winds to Britain all the way from Portugal.
It is predicted to lead to chaos on many UK roads and clearly it is not seen as the right weather for a setpiece occasion such as a celebratory parade.
The Welsh Guards were due to form up outside Brecon Cathedral, where a service was due to be held tomorrow at 11.30am, and then march via The Struet to The Bulwark.
Following the distribution of leeks outside the Wellington Hotel, the soldiers were then supposed to march to Theatr Brycheiniog where they were due to fall out.
In addition to marking the day dedicated to Wales’ patron saint, the event was also intended to be an example of the Welsh Guards exercising their right to the Freedom of Powys, an honour they were granted in May 2011.
Road closures had been organised for Brecon town centre from midday to 1.30pm.
Now none of this, including the Cathedral service for veterans, will take place because of the fears of a severe deterioration in the weather and the possible risk to the public.
A short press statement released to the Brecon & Radnor Express at 1.25pm yesterday said: "Please be aware the Welsh Guards have cancelled tomorrow’s St David’s Day parade due to the incoming weather."
