To mark Pride Month this June, Llandovery Cinema is holding a special evening of short films spotlighting LGBTQ+ voices from across Wales.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 21, at the Rhys Prichard Memorial Hall with complimentary tea / coffee and rainbow cake from 6pm at the shared meal.

From 7pm a curated selection of Welsh language films that explore identity, community and queer experiences through powerful storytelling will be screened.

With collaboration from Iris Prize - Cardiff’s world-renowned LGBTQ+ short film festival - this vibrant and diverse programme showcases the creativity of Welsh filmmakers and uplifts underrepresented voices within our national cinema. From intimate personal journeys to bold experimental work and animation, the selection reflects the richness of queer life and culture in Wales today.

One of the films showcased in Llandovery will be the S4C commissioned ‘Teth’ by writer-actor Leo Drayton, which wowed audiences at this year’s BFI Flare in London.

“There are lots of depressing Trans films out there so it’s nice to have this kind of representation,’” said Leo about his film. “It’s helpful to have this perspective out there so Trans people watching know it’s not all doom and gloom.”

But not only does ‘Teth’ advocate for positive representation of the Trans community, it is also an ambassador for the Welsh language, being the first Cymraeg film to screen at this prestigious British festival.

And that is the common theme throughout the programme that Film Coordinator Ella Peel has created for the evening. She said: “It was important that the films had both Welshness and Queerness at their core to demonstrate that both identities hold equal importance and how beautifully diverse Cymru is.”

The evening will end with a live Q&A with Director and Animator Efa Blosse-Mason, talking about the themes explored in her film and rural pride with LGBTQ+ artists.

A spokesperson for the event said: “Join us as we celebrate Pride through film — with stories rooted in our language, landscapes, and lived experiences. Everyone is welcome. Come along and be part of this celebration of Welsh language, film, and LGBTQ+ pride.”

Tickets are available for £5 and can be purchased at LYCC on Market Square Llandovery, on the door (subject to availability) or online at Ticket Source.
