LEADER of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies, has been hearing first-hand the problems facing businesses on the high streets of Mid Wales.

He joined up with Gary Price, the Assembly candidate for Brecon and Radnorshire, on a mission to meet shopkeepers in Rhayader.

Mr Davies said he was impressed with what he saw and heard. He said: “We met with some really enthusiastic and entrepreneurial business owners. However, local business undoubtedly needs help.

“In Government in Cardiff Welsh Conservatives would cut business rates, make access to finance easier and empower communities to lead their own regeneration plans, improving properties and accessibility and offering free parking.

“We want a big sign over Wales, ‘We are open for business’, and I am certain that a combination of great traders like those we have met in Rhayader, strong local champions like Gary Price and Chris Davies MP and a new Government in Cardiff Bay that will actually do things to help, we will see our high streets once again becoming the beating heart of our communities.’

Mr Price said: “As a postman in the area I know all too well the difficulties and cost of getting around the highways and byways of Brecon and Radnorshire to visit our market towns’,

“Local shops and businesses are the very lifeblood of this area and with competition

from the internet and discount stores in cities it is essential that we listen to those with experience and translate those messages into action in Cardiff Bay. We need action that will help revitalise the high street and make people want to visit places like Rhayader.’
