A yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts Wales this weekend following the extreme heat of this week, which saw the Met Office issue its first ever extreme heat warning 

The yellow thunderstorm warning covers parts of mid Wales which is set for thundery downpours as well as lightning. The warning will be in force from today until Sunday.

Although many areas are likely to miss the downpours, thunderstorms could develop in the area bringing torrential rain, frequent lightning, large hail and gusty winds with heavy rain and thunderstorms leading to some disruption and flooding.

What to expect

Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes or hail

Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services

Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
