PHOEBE Terry showed great cooking ability goes with the genes as she won the area final of the Young Chef competition organised by the Rotary Club.

The final was held at Crickhowell High School and organised by Crickhowell Rotary Club.

The judges were Stephen Terry, who owns The Hardwick hotel near Abergavenny and is head chef there, and Stephen Hindmarsh, whose family own The Bear Hotel.

Phoebe, who goes to Crickhowell High School, is Stephen’s daughter and showed she has the same talent as her father who was taught by Marco Pierre White at his restaurant Harvey’s in Wandsworth.

Four talented youngsters, each of whom won their local final, took part. The other three were Hermione Holder, from King Henry School in Abergavenny, Gethin Lewis from Builth Wells High School and Victoria Bowen from Gwernyfed High School.

Phoebe will now represent the local Rotary Club winners in the district final to be

held in Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan, on March 3.

Stephen Parry, youth chair of Crickhowell Rotary Club, said: “The standard of cooking was extremely high and the judges had a difficult job in deciding the winner. After much deliberation Phoebe Terry was chosen to represent the local area in the district final.

“Crickhowell Rotary Club are indebted to Crickhowell High School for hosting the event and also to the judges for taking time out of their busy schedules.”
